Appendix I. - Itinerary
Although this is one of the later histories of Dublin to be
included there is much new material - including a handy Appendix on suggested walks around
the city(nearly as accurate today as it was nearly 100 years ago).
It was a difficult book to scan - poor print quality - and to proof-read (Fitzpatrick
delights in including Greek, Latin, Old Irish, Anglo-Saxon, Norman French, Old English -
and all this in the first chapter).
I have absolutely no Greek, a smattering of Latin and Old Irish (the character set is
different), no Anglo-Saxon and no Norman French. Old English offers a completely different
challenge in that no-one ever seems to spell the same word the same way twice.
Once I got over the first chapter - the shock of seeing the amount of work as I opened the
first scans resulted in me abandoning the project for three months - the remainder
proved easier. There are also five missing pages (p98, p295-8). I have another copy from a
different publisher and, once I dig it out, I'll include the relevant pages.
Chapters which add substantially to the information already included on this site are from
Chapter 5 onwards.
Verdict: Starts as a very tough read, gets into its stride in Chapter 2, breaks into a
canter in later chapters. Lovely illustrations.

PS. I've only included the illustrations for Chapters 1 and 2. I'll be adding the
remainder at the rate of one chapter every few days.
